Efficient Use of Biomass for Greenhouse Gas Mitigation
Östersund, Sweden
September 30 – October 1, 2003
Jointly organised by

Scope and objectives of the conference
The conference on the first day (September 30) focused on the efficient use of biomass for energy, including the efficient use of land resources, to reduce GHG emissions. The objective of this conference was to provide a forum for
- discussing methodological issues;
- informing on policy frameworks and
- presenting new biomass technologies and systems.
- On the final day, participants first took a tour on an active forest site where SÅTAB AB showcased currently used advanced techeqies for harvesting, caollecting, and processing biomass wood fuel and forest residues for the local CHP plant in Östersund.
- Secondly, participants took a tour of one of the newest and largest Biomass CHP plants in the world, located in Östersund and supplying district heating and electricity. Jämtkfraft AB in Östersund kindly introduced participants to the CHP plant and lead a tour of the facilities. The outside collection and storage areas for the biomass fuels and the inside of the CHP plant where the biomass fuels are converted into combined Heat and Electricity
